I've gotten lots of great comments on my mouthpieces, but my favorite one has to be
"I didn't know my tuba could do that!"
from an enthusiastic ITEC attendee, after trying the MF3.
Here are some of the things other folks are saying:
"I have tried everything out there over the years. I suppose you could say I'm an experimentalist when it comes to mouthpieces. I'm always, as we all are, searching for that "perfect fit". I had tried the PS Solo at one point, and loved it. Still is, in my opinion, one of the best mouthpieces on the market. At the ITEC 2008 conference at CCM, I had the opportunity to meet Mike and try his entire line, every combination. I had my top student there with me as an extra set of ears to confirm what I was hearing. I ended up going with the 55C6 cup and the 55N rim combination for my Besson Prestige 2052, and I haven't looked back! It is BY FAR the best mouthpiece I have ever played on. I tend to play very big and dark, and sometimes a bit airy because of that with loss of control, and this mouthpiece puts it all there for me. I retain my tonal concept of sound, yet it is more refined and pure, and a heck of a lot easier to produce on a consistent basis! The sharp rim is amazing, and makes even the most difficult of articulations jump right out of the bell. I thought with going to a slightly smaller mouthpiece that some of my low range would be affected, and the amount of air that I could move through the mouthpiece would be hindered somewhat. Boy, was I ever wrong!!! For me, this mouthpiece really does do it all! Mike has created, in my opinion, the BEST euphonium mouthpiece on the market! I highly recommend that you try his combination series and decide for yourself. I am quite content with my set up now, and foresee it being that way for a long, long time in the future...unless Mike comes out with something even better, which I do not know if that is even possible! KUDOS Mike!!!"

"I use the MF3H on my orchestral tuba and the results are absolutely fantastic! I don't need to work at all in any dynamic range. The mouthpiece is big enough that I can play with a huge supporting sound when I need to, and it also gives me the control I need to play soft passages - while still being able to project my sound without overpowering the section, or ensemble. Very clean response! In my opinion it's perfectly balanced! Great mouthpiece! Thanks, Mike!"

"The new Finn MF4 F tuba Mouthpiece is an exciting new addition to the tubist's "bag of tricks". It provides a well-centered, clear sound with wonderful overtones. And, yet, the tone color is rich in fundamental. I find that the pitch is VERY consistent and the rim provides both comfort and security - especially in the execution of high register orchestral and solo literature. A WONDERFUL mouthpiece!"

"...With the MF3, the Mirafone sounded much more like a good Alex, really dark, and would play the higher dynamic levels without objectionable edginess or offering to break up. Plus, the heavy-weight mouthpiece didn't seem to kill the good response in the mid- and softer dynamics, either. Congratulations, Mike!"

"...One of the things we do as players is try and make our sound better while we play. With the MF2 design, more of the sound is being put into the horn instead of being wasted through sympathetic vibration at the mouthpiece. The extra mass of the MF2 helps to channel that sound energy into the horn and the resultant sound is much better than with a regular mass mouthpiece. Since the sound is closer to what you might be wanting to get in the first place, you're not having to work as hard at the mouthpiece. This frees you up to do those other things like musicality. I'd also be willing to bet that over time, you'll see an increase in your endurance. Since you're working less at the mouthpiece, you might see longer endurance because you'll be playing a little more relaxed."

"...The fat sound is more like what I recall having back in my college years (when I played a lot more) and have not been able to recapture. Surprisingly, this mouthpiece allows me to play slurs and legatos with a much smoother transition from note to note... The high notes have not suffered and the sound is powerful across all registers .......I CAN PLAY REALLY LOUD WITHOUT BREAK-UP......or raspyness. The low notes slot with equal authority as the (competitor)... This is the first true heavy weight mouthpiece I have enjoyed lugging around. It is easy to play, sounds great, and I’m keeping it!"

"...I've found them excellent, and will probably now play one after a little more time with it. They seem to do everything a little better than any mouthpiece I've tried before... The Finn is definately my preferred choice at the moment, for sound and comfort. BTW, I only play BBb!"
